UGM gives training for disabled
Gadjah Mada University (UGM) will give special training for the disabled — survivors of last year’s earthquake — in Bantul, Yogyakarta.
Sunartini, head of nursing studies at UGM medical school, said of 1,500 people who were injured after the quake 300 are permanently disabled.
The campus will run special training for people whose ailments are not permanent so that they can make a living.
Almost all the disabled said they were seeking employment. To be independent and not rely on others is their dream. “I want to work and earn an income for my family,” said Sunarto, a survivor of the earthquake.
The training is being held by UGM in cooperation with the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA)
