Mudflow victims accuse Lapindo of breaking promises
The South Korean government handed over 115,800 bags of cement to Yogyakarta officials Thursday as part of its contribution to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of areas in Yogyakarta and Central Java affected by the May 27 earthquake.
Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) said in a press release that the handover was part of a total of 386,266 bags, worth US$1 million, to be delivered in three stages to several areas in Yogyakarta and Central Java, including Bantul, Kulonprogo, Gunung Kidul, Sleman, and Klaten.
“The local administration will distribute the cement to the local people for the construction of houses,” KOICA said.
It added that with the donation, the total contribution of the South Korean government for the victims had reached $2 million as it had earlier sent medical supplies and emergency relief aid valued at $1 million to the affected areas.
