Japan introduces quake-resistant houses to Yogyakarta
The Japanese Government will provide a Rp685 million grant for the Center for Earthquake Engineering, Dynamic Effect and Disaster Studies (CEEDEDS) of the Indonesian Islamic University (UII).
The fund will be used to finance workshops and the distribution of manuals on building of quake-resistant houses in Yogyakarta and Central Java, the Japanese Embassy said here on Friday.
Some 160 construction workers and supervisors who will be involved the reconstruction and rehabilitation of houses in quake-stricken areas are expected to participate in the workshop.
Some 7,400 copies of the manual on the construction of quake-resistant houses will be distributed through the workshop to be opened by Ken Okinawa, minister at the Japanese Embassy here.
Japan has given various kinds of assistance such as tents, water purification apparatuses, medical teams and members of the Japanese defense forces, and granted funds to areas devastated by the strong earthquake that hit the Yogyakarta Special Region and the southeastern parts of Central Java province on May 27, 2006.
