Yogyakarta Promotes Its Tourist Sites In Malaysia

A number of tourist sites in Gunung Kidul district, in Yogyakarta Special Province, have been promoted in Malaysia through seminars and meetings with travel agencies.

“The promotion of the tourist objects to Malaysia is not only limited to Prambanan temple and Javanese traditional palace (Keraton) but also the introduction of beach resorts in the district,” the Indonesian news agency Antara quoted Gunung Kidul Cultural and Tourist Office chief Suhardono as saying Thursday, at the Gunung Kidul district town of Wonosari.

Suhardono said the Yogyakarta administration has made a significant breakthrough in the promotion of Gunung Kidul tourist objects to Malaysian travel agencies.

Through the promotion, he said the foreign tourists who want to visit Yogyakarta are expected to have special interest in the Gunung Kidul beach resorts such as Baron and Kukup beaches besides Prambanan temple and Yogyakarta palace.

He said Gunung Kidul has a number of beautiful beaches such as Wedi Ombo, Sepanjang, Baron, Krakal and Kukup which the foreign tourists can visit.

However, Suhardono added that about Rp 88 billion (US$9.5 million) is needed to fund the development of the infrastructure facilities in the district.

“The Gunung Kidul Cultural and Tourist Office should significantly develop the infrastructure facilities of the tourist objects before offering their management to the investors with a contract system,” Suhardono said.
