Iran Offers Sister City Cooperation With Yogyakarta
The government of Iran has offered Yogyakarta to establish a sister city relation with a popular city in Iran, Estevan, considering that their culture and characters have some similarities, according to Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia.
“We have expressed it to the Yogyakarta Governor, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, since three years a go,” Shaban Saidi said after a meeting with Yogyakarta deputy governor Paku Alam IX here on Monday.
He said Iran wanted the cooperation to be followed up soon by signing a cooperation agreement. The ambassador said that the Iranian vice president would visit Indonesia at the invitation of Indonesia’s minister for arts and tourism in the near future. He would among other things take part in an international tourism conference in Yogyakarta.
He hoped that the visit of the Iranian vice president to attend the conference in Yogyakarta would also be used as an opportunity for the signing of the cooperation.
‘I visit Yogyakarta to know the preparation of the city administration in a bid to implement the signing,” he added.
Meanwhile, Yogyakarta Mayor Herry Zudianto said the administration was now discussing what sectors that might be included in the cooperation.
“Both Yogyakarta and Estevan will exchange information on the social, cultural and trade sectors of each city,” he added.
